- Same persons in charge, expert and strengthened committee
- Fiemme in pole position as regards the TV audiences of the World Cup 2009
- Next January, Nordic Combined and Tour de Ski on the same days, the World Championships from the 19th February to the 2nd March 2013
On the 29th May 2009, in Cape Town, the FIS President Gian-Franco Kasper announced the assignment of the Nordic World Ski Championships 2013 to Val di Fiemme. Since that moment, 365 intense days have passed, during which the Nordic Ski Committee defined the organigram, the operational projects, the side events and the approach stages till February 2013.
The structure of the Organising Committee changed really very little: some sectors have been strengthened, but on the whole it is composed by the same persons who worked side by side during the World Championships 2003, an extremely tight team who is also committed year after year with the World Cup and Tour de Ski events.
The Committee changed recently its seat, now the offices are always in Cavalese but in another street, Via Regolani nr. 8, in a wider and more functional structure which will also host, during the World Championships 2013, the peripheral FIS offices and also the offices of the Agency who will handle the TV rights and the marketing sector.
During the recent calendar meeting in Dubrovnik, Val di Fiemme received some new and strong demonstrations of its recognized professionality at an international level, above all as regards the TV ratings of last season’s World Cup competitions, which were communicated during the meeting. Once again Val di Fiemme got the “gold medal”: the final climb of the Alpe Cermis was the most watched competition of the whole season, with a total of almost 55 million TV spectators.
The second most watched race was that on the 3rd of January, always held in Val di Fiemme, with almost 38 million spectators. There are also come incredible data regarding the TV share: 74% in Norway and 18% in Germany (men’s final climb).
The competitions in Val di Fiemme are the most watched also in the Nordic Combined sector, as the event organised on the 10th of January was followed by more than 26 million TV spectators.
These are very important data, which improve the value of the big organising effort; always in Dubrovnik the Fiemme OC also got the confirmation of the events it will have to organise till 2013: every year Val di Fiemme will host the Tour de Ski final and two Nordic Combined competitions.
But there is some important news in this regard: the nordic combined competitions will be held in the same week end of the Tour de Ski, and the cross country stage of one of the NC races will take place on the Alpe Cermis climb, a real innovation for NC competitors.
It will be really a “tour de force” for the organisers, committed meanwhile in Lago di Tesero, Predazzo and on the Alpe Cermis for the competitions and in Cavalese in the media center.
Next Wednesady in Cavalese there will be another meeting with the FIS board, in order to summarize the situation of the programmes and plans in view of Febrauary 2013, which for Pietro De Giodenz, President of the Nordic Ski Fiemme committee, and his collaborators, is already... just round the corner. In fact, one year has already passed, but it seems like yesterday when the Fiemme staff was celebrating in Cape Town the assignment of the third Championship, after those organised successfully in 1991 and in 2003.
The FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2013 will take place from the 19th of February till the 2nd of March.
